Whats good Ethnicity Readers…..

With consumer confidence rising and we starting to see a light at the end of the recess…. While we still can, the good folks at the cutlery will be taking a “Economic Hibernation”!

You ask what a “Economic Hibernation” is?

On 06.03.09 The Cutlery will be closing their brick and mortar retail spot on mamo street to hibernate for latter part of 2009. During this hibernation we will be Camping/Traveling/Learning/Sourcing/Creating…. Basically getting inspired and fattening up on ideas and projects for 2010.

We will still be selling a core group of brands thru our soon to be launched online shop @ www.upinthecutlery.com. Look for exclusive online releases of Ethnic and Cutlery gear as well!

To prepare for this “Economic Hibernation”, TheCutlery will be having a SALE to clear out current product from 5.27.09 thru 6.03.09. Come in and take advantage of the 30-60% off…..You gotta get fresh for the rest of 09 right? Well we’ll be open allowing you do that there…..

We would like to thank all of our customers and friends that promoted the mamo st. upstart. You might catch us chillin’ on the beach, traveling japan or workin LA. In the mean time, StayUp! AlwaysHIneverLO! We’ll be back soon….

Aloha, TheCutleryOhana

Sheraton

If you look high and low, you’re bound to find something fun to do week in and week out on the Big Island.  Now what you decide is fun is up to you, but there are 2 different opportunities this friday to check out some nightlife on the other side of the island.  Yes, I’m talking about Kona.   First up is DJ Candy’s “Ladies in The Front”  show at Luke’s Place in Hawi. The Kona local spins classic hip hop, afro-soul, reggae gold, 80’s throwbacks, dirty funk, outer-national hits and island strut.  Show up at Dark:30 and throw down $5 to enjoy the show.  Sorry kids, this ones 21+

After you check out the flashbacks in Hawi, head down to the Sheraton Keauhou Bay Convention Center to check out Red Lantern,  a high end nightclub serving a night full of dj’s and go go dancers wrapped up in “touch of Vegas.”  A “dress to impress” dress code will be in effect, and again, 21 and over only.  If you get a chance to buy your tickets early it will only run you around $10 but if you wait till the night of, your spending $20 at the door.  Money well spent for a club that rivals Vegas, hmmmm….right?

On at the Cut: De La Soul

Are you In?

Fresh off a not-to-be-named music blog is “Are You In?” From De La Soul. If you like the A-Trak mix, or any of the other Nike+Original Run series mixes, you will not be disappointed. There are 6 total mixes in the series from various artists from The Hives to Aesop Rock. Check them all out at iTunes and get pumped to go get your run on. Each of the mixes are designed to be played at high volume while running. The entire experience starts out slow then continues to build into a peak of musical energy, then brings you back down to reality, and sore muscles. If you don’t run, these mixes are still worth a listen, you never know where you’ll get inspiration from.

A little late, but fresh as hell.  This small shipment from Chunk & Ape brought us some “dank” tees that’ll keep you cool all summer long. As always, limited in sizes and only 3 colors.

P.s.  Happy Cinco de Mayo!!! Have fun, eat a burrito, wash it down with a Corona, and be safe!

Flip The What?!

It’s been a minute since we got some new gear from Flip The Bird, but this worth the wait.  Some crisp simple designs for summer.  Personal favorite: the watermelon.  This design is so clean and immediately gets you thinking of hot summer days… right around the corner!  The striped sound wave tee is also an instant classic.  Now that the hipster striped craze has mellowed out for a bit, this design has summed up the brands initial business efforts; music.  Yes, if you don’t know already, Flip The Bird is actually a record company turned fashion label.  Check out the pictures below and head down to Mamo soon if you want to grab a piece or two because these WILL NOT LAST LONG!

Hey! Want to waste 10 minutes of your time?

Some people like to live in the fast lane.  No time for conventional…well, anything.  From their venti coffee every morning to their handy dandy Bic lighter, each possession screams individuality and sets them apart from the pack.  When it comes to lighters though, they gotta go out and design their own… if you find yourself in the same situation head on over to flickyourbic.com and test your design skills.  The program features Adobe Illustrator-like tools that help you really bang out a totally custom lighter that can then be submited to “headquarters” for judging, analyzing, and whatever else they do at flickyourbic.com.  I wish I had more time to really show off all the possibilities of designing your own lighter, but I have a day job that requires more attention.  Besides, I don’t want to take ALL the credit for the next mass produced little joy of fire.

Above is my rendition of the last 8 minutes of my life… Enjoy.
